Who goes to a museum? Anyone? Yes, No, Maybe? Well, I know few people who enjoy  a date in such a place but for me, it’s not a place I’ll go for a date, not a place I’d spend my money with. Give me a beach detination instead. That’s probably what I would say if I hadn’t visited Lakbay Museo. From “not my cup of tea” to now “I’ll spill the tea”, that’s how I would say my Lakbay Museo experience in a nutshell.

Located in Conrad Hotel Pasay City, Lakbay Museo is a place to feed your knowledge with our great Filipino culture and heritage through colorful waste material turned into magical pieces.
I was super excited for this event especially when I saw the sneak peek, it reminds me of the dessert musseum, I think they have the same concept only that Lakbay Museo showcases everything about the 7,107 islands beyond the usual.
As we enter Lakbay Museo, we were welcomed by eye-catching colorful theme with matching costumes from their staff and crew, and from there, my camera never stopped clicking all the way out. Just like me, if you’re not a huge museum goer or you mostly enjoy activities for the millennials worry not coz this place for sure will give you the most braggable IG photos, your friends will surely ask you where your photos were taken, saying this based on experience (laughs).

After the registration they gave us a quick briefing on what to expect inside the museum, just a little info as an introduction. After the quick reminder they ushered us and let us choose how we want to enter the museum, we can go inside by the iconic jeep, by plane or by boat. Of course I chose to slide down by their huge airplane entrance, it was really cool to start a museum tour that way.
The tour starts at the Market area where they exhibit our traditional “Palengke” theme, here you can sense the distinct smell of Filipino trademark, if you know the smell of danggit, daing, tuyo or tinapa you are a certified Filipino. I also spotted a booth of meat vendors (fake pork meats). This place has this typical wet market feels, don’t worry, the floor wasn’t as messy as the actual Pinoy wet market. As you passed the market area, either you go right or left. There’s a short pathway in the right section where they boast Ilocos popular cuisines and other stuff significant to the region like the Burnayan Jars, Ilocos Empanada, Longganisa and Garlic. These iconic Ilocos theme will surely make you stay for awhile and will bring you crave for longganisa and empanada (with their local vinegrette as its dip). The dangling empanadas tied on strings caught my attention, too.  On its opposite direction, it’s a fully decorated hall way that exhibits the genius artistry of Filipinos. It was overwhelming, from the musical background that covers the entire museum, you won’t resist to move your feet and join the crew as they groove with the music of all popular Filipino songs.

Synchronized to the music are the uniquely colorful Filipino realness, I was dazed to see the replica of two-storey Pahiyas house decorated with colorful Kiping (rice wafer), I remember the first time I attended Lucban’s Pahiyas Festival, I remember the festive atmosphere identical to what I was feeling on that exact moment. I also love the idea of having the pile of Palayok pot (clay pot) that you can put on your head, the palayok pot is paper-made so it won’t break in case you lost the balance (see my photos below). I was also fascinated by another replica of Philippines most iconic landmark, the Mayon volcano and the Cagsawa ruin. This stunning work of art was really dramatic, you can see the irrupting mayon volcano with glowing lava flow, it’s far from the majestic perfect cone we see in the cover of the books published across the globe or the tame volcano we see in various social media pages. Sitting next to the Mayon replica is a curtained room with wildly captivating aesthetic of diverse flora and fauna of the Visayas Islands. Double the happiness that you would feel to think that it’s made out of recycled materials, the scene changes color through it’s lighting technology that adds to its enchanting feature.
And lastly, the Mindanao room. This room was the last destination of our Lakbay Museo journey. Mindanao room gives tribute to the native Filipino instruments from the Pre-Spanish colonial era. I recognized the instruments from my grade school years when we had to memorize all these instruments.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE?

Of course, needless to say that I totally enjoyed the 2 hour journey of great historical Philippine treasures. Both pleasurable to my eyes and to my tummy. It’s not only that I have new IG photos but it gave me a refresher of how rich our Filipino heritage be it the food, clothing, and culture.
I also appreciate the festive atmosphere and the welcoming/approachable staff of Lakbay Museo, everyone one was nice to us. And lastly, kudos to the The Millennial Concept Factory Inc. for giving us this exemplary work of art made out of mostly recycled materials, this is world class!
